yes you can mix and match all 944 gears . the turbo 5th is to tall for the na motor to pull . you could use the 5th gear from the 85.5 to 89 na 944 016J 5Z box . but you don''t get much of a gain from it . there are 2 5th gear sets from 85.5 to 89 the 016J and the 016k gear boxes . final drives are the same so you would be doing work for no gains . on the 944''s i race i do swap out the hole

Jan 02, 2012 · I haven''t found any info about the 2 final drives but the NB Turbo S also had 2 final drives, with the 5th & 6th linked to Final Drive 2. The DSG on the Beetle has gears 4th and 5th with the same ratio (0.98). It would make sense that Final Drive 2 begins with the 5th gear.

Scenario 1: Our Mustang currently has a 3.31:1 axle ratio, and say at 3300 engine RPM the wheels are turning at 1000 RPM and the speedometer reads 40 MPH. I want some more acceleration off the line. Ergo, I need a numerically higher ratio. I pick a 3.73:1. To turn the wheels at 1000 RPM, it now takes 3700 RPM from the engine to maintain the same 40 MPH speed.
